The 2025 Sector Ministers’ Meeting in Madrid marks a decisive moment for political leaders to take collective action. Hosted by the Government of Spain under the theme “Breaking Silos: Uniting Political Leadership for Integrating Water, Sanitation, and Climate Action”, the SMM is a platform for ministers to lead the transition from fragmented efforts toward integrated, climate-resilient solutions that connect water and sanitation with climate action, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development goals.
SWA Civil Society Joint messaging on the 2025 SMM
The global CSO joint messaging are a partner-led initiative that reflect the collective priorities and recommendations of civil society organizations around the world ahead of the 2025 Sector Ministers’ Meeting. They aim to guide ministers in taking decisive action to break down silos and unite political leadership around the integration of water, sanitation, and climate action. Each message is grounded in integrity, equity, transparency, and accountability and can be adapted to local contexts. Rooted in civil society experience and evidence, the messages call for inclusive, rights-based policies that strengthen resilience and ensure that the most affected by climate change, from rural women to youth and marginalized groups, are prioritised.
